Frequently Asked Questions...

We have compiled some of our most frequently asked questions. If you require further information on courses please contact us on telephone            01246 252332      ...

How often are the courses run?

All of the electrical courses are usually run at least once every month.

Is there any car parking available to students?

Yes the centre has a large car park with plenty of spaces.

How many candidates do you take on a course?

The numbers vary for different courses.  We will take up to 10 on a 17th edition wiring regulations course, but no more than 6 on an EAL domestic installer course.  If too many candidates are enrolled on a course the quality of the training will suffer, that is why we keep to these numbers.

What time do the courses finish?

This all depends on how long the course takes to complete.  If no one asks a question, then the course will finish early, but if there are a lot of questions asked the course will finish late.  Every course is different and so for that reason we cannot give you an exact finish time, the course will finish when everyone is confident and ready to take their exam.

What time do the courses start?

We like to start the courses at 9am.  Usually candidates arrive at about 8.30am and help themselves to a coffee, biscuit and a chat before the course starts!

 How long are the courses?

The EAL domestic electrical installer (part P) course is 5 days.

The City & Guilds 2377 PAT Testing course is 1 or 2 days, depending on the level of electrical knowledge.

The City & Guilds 2382-12 17th Edition Wiring Regulations is 3 Days.

 Where is Ambrose Training?

We are 5 minutes from Junction 29 of the M1 at Clay Cross, 5 miles south of Chesterfield in Derbyshire.

Will I be able to start work as a domestic installer as soon as I have passed the courses?

When booking on to, and during the course, we will discuss this at length.  You should apply to register with a government approved competent person scheme, where someone will assess your work and your electrical knowledge before allowing you to join their scheme.

How long will I have to wait for the results of the exam?

A few minutes after you have finished your exam, you will be told if you have passed or failed.

If I fail an exam do I have to sit through the whole course again?

No just re-sit the exam at a time convenient to you.  We will discuss why you have failed and point out any areas where you can improve and then before you re-sit the exam we will have an hour or so going over the main parts of the course.
